First Son Muhoozi Leaves X to Focus on UPDF
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and the First Son, has ditched social media. On January 9, 2025, he deleted his X account (what used to be Twitter), explaining that Jesus told him it was time to step away and focus on his work with the army.
Before logging off for good, Muhoozi reflected on his decade of tweeting. He called it a “great whirlwind” and a “rousing journey.”
“To all my dear followers, it has been a great whirlwind and rousing journey together on these streets for the last 10 years since 2014. However, the time has now come under the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ to leave and concentrate on His army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF),” he wrote.
He got emotional too, telling his supporters: “I know you all love me and that you will continue to follow me like the wind long after here.”
Muhoozi hinted this isn’t goodbye forever. “At an appropriate time in the future when it becomes important, after fulfilling the Almighty God’s immediate assignment to restore everlasting peace and security to all his people in our region, we shall always re-converge,” he said.
In his final message, he thanked his followers for their support and urged them to keep backing Uganda and Africa. He also gave a shoutout to his father, President Museveni, calling him “the greatest General of the Resistance.”
For now, though, it’s the end of his online era. Whether he’ll be back someday? Only time will tell.
